Station No. 8, also known as the Cohas Brook Fire Station, is a new facility for the City of Manchester Fire Department. The development of the east side of Manchester, and the expansion of an industrial park, called for the construction of a new facility to service this growing area of the City.
A compact parcel of land was donated to the City by Sanders Associates. The project consisted of full development of this site, which lies adjacent to wetlands, and the erection of a 12,000 square foot structure. The central portion of the structure consists of three drive-through apparatus bays. These bays are flanked on the south by the dispatch office, a training room, a physical training room, day room, and kitchen. On the north side of the building are the firemen's quarters, and rest room facilities.
The latest technology has been incorporated throughout, including state-of-the-art communications and vehicle exhaust systems. The project was executed on an extremely limited budget. It has been recognized as a success and is frequently chosen as a good example of fire station design by area fire chiefs.
